Another ER visit

Super bowl Sunday Jacob fell out of a chair and knocked his front left tooth out completely. Root and all. The tooth was HUGE. It was about 2 inches long, including the root. He was a really good sport about it. He only cried for about a minute and that was it. After researching the Internet and talking with Matthew's Dentist we reinserted the tooth. Jacob did not like this and either did I! We ended up taking him to the ER to have a Pediatric Dentist look at it and help us push the tooth back in all the way. We were nervous doing too much forcing it back into place. The on call Dentist would not come in to look at it she just wanted to pull it out. Matthew and I had many concerns about just pulling the tooth back out. 7 to 8 years without a front tooth...kids can be cruel. Despite her recommendation we chose to keep the tooth in. Jacob was so tired when he finally fell asleep on the way home from the ER at about midnight. The hours that followed him were scary. His breathing was shallow and short and we had to take away the pacifier as well as a the sippy cup. Poor guy had a rough couple nights. I kept asking myself is this worth it. Lets just pull the tooth back out. We saw a Pediatric Dentist on Monday. He said that the tooth was in fairly tight. If he was to pull it out that he would have to really pull hard. He said we could leave it in or pull it out. Once again we chose to keep it in place. We left with an appointment set up for two weeks from then to check and see how it was doing.

Jake's tooth was hanging down a bit and was turning yellow because his mouth was so bruised that he wouldn't let me brush them or wipe them off with a warm cloth.

Update: We went to a Dentist in Murfreesboro for a second opinion on Feb 19th. He took an X-Ray of the tooth and said that it looked great! He could not believe how well the tooth had taken. He said that if I had not told him what had happened that looking at the X-Ray he would not have noticed. About 1 week ago the tooth pulled back into the gum and is looking so much better and he is letting me brush his teeth again! I am so excited. It makes the last few weeks worth it.

Oh poor guy!! I'm so glad you were able to save the tooth! This almost happened to J.J. in November. First he was jumping on his bed and hit his tooth on the edge so it came loose. Then a week later he ran into Trey head on and knocked it even looser! I was so scared he was going to lose it...luckily it tightened back in. These boys are going to give us ulcers!
