So, last night at the dinner table Kennedy asked me, “Mom, do babies really come out of your bum?” I tried to just brush the comment aside and said, “I do not know.” Kennedy said, “Yes, you do. Tell me!” This is how our conversation preceded. Just so this all makes sense to you we call our bottoms in this family a bum. We have a front bum and a back bum. I know, I know, we need to find better words to describe that part of our body but we will leave that to another post or just chuck it to my bad parenting.
Mom: “Well, Yes…they do.”
Kennedy with a VERY confused face and her hand gesturing something very small: “How do they fit out our bums? Do they just get really small and then come out?”
Maddie: “That is nasty!”…she thinks for a minute and says, “Did we come out of your bum, Mom.” She had a look of sheer disgust on her face now. Kennedy looking even more confused, if that is even possible.
Mom: “No, honey you were taken out of my stomach.”
Maddie and Kennedy both: “I want to have a baby out of my tummy!”
Kennedy pointing to her nose: “Wouldn’t it be funny if a baby got really, super tiny came out of a nose?”…then she started laughing hysterically. She has a great laugh! Anyone who has heard her laugh before knows what I mean!
It went really weird from this point but none the less and funny conversation!

My girls say "front bum" and "back bum" too. I'm just waiting for somebody at school to tell Abby differently!

Don't feel bad. Caitlin thinks that everything "down there" is her booty. She asked how babies got out of the belly and she wouldn't let me dodge the question. So I told her and she acted like it was perfectly okay.
This is so funny! Your girls are hilarious. I could listen to them all day. I like how you said, "it got really weird from there"... as if it wasn't already weird. Hahahahaha! I would have loved to hear this conversation.

We use the same descriptions so don't worry. My girls know the real terms but we choose the bum phrases for everyday talk. I dread the where do babies come from talk. I get the question all the time but turn it around and ask them what they think. Sounds like your talk went fairly smooth.
