I survived...I mean the girls survived!

The girls had their first day of school on Tuesday. The night before I had them lay the clothes they wanted to wear out and I think that got them overly excited. I have been telling them for 3 weeks that they were going to start school soon and they have been asking me over and over, “Is it today?” When they finally realized that it was the next day they had trouble sleeping. I left around 7pm to start my hunt for washable markers and they were still up. (I had put them to bed and 6pm, which they usually fall asleep shortly after.) At 9pm when I finally got home (yes, it took that long to find some!!) Maddie was still up! Anyway, they woke up at 6am ready to get and get dressed! They were so excited to see all their supplies, back packs and lunchboxes all laid out for them. You would have thought that it was Christmas!
Matthew decided that he wanted to go to drop them off with me. I am not sure what prompted his change of heart, (It might have been our conversation that night when I started tearing up while finishing labeling their supplies and pour my heart out to him with what ifs…) but I am grateful that he did. We later piled in the car and headed to school.
Matthew put Jake in the stroller and I put Eli in the front pack and grabbed our million bags and headed into the school. When we were walking on the side walk up to the school several people said, “This must be your first day of kindergarten.” I am not sure if it was the lost looks on all our faces or my watery eyes. When we got in the school I notice all the kids were walking in lines on each side of the hall, very orderly. (Later I found out from the girls this is a rule and they aren’t even allow to touch the walls, it might get it dirty!) Anyway, Matthew headed to find the bookstore to purchase a chair bag with Jake and the girls and Eli and I headed to their classrooms. We went to Maddie’s classroom first. Her teacher had everything very organized. All name tags were print our on the computer. She met Maddie with a smile and showed her around the room. She was great! While her teacher was talking to her I took Kennedy over to her room across the hall. Things weren’t as organized. She had Ziploc bags I had to label and signs everywhere telling me exactly what to do. She didn’t come up and really talk with us. After the bell rang she came over to us and asked Kennedy to come and sit down to color a picture. Kennedy was very excited to use her new crayons!) I gave her a hug and told her see was going to have a wonderful day, I loved her and bye. I ran over to Maddie’s room and gave her a hug, told her the same thing and she looked up at me with watery eyes and a smile. I was thinking, oh my baby! I turned and waved good bye and Matthew and I headed to the car, two kids gone and two in hand! On the way to the car I started to cry a little and Matthew made fun of me saying something to make me laugh. I was fine until I got home with just Jake and Eli. The house was so very quiet. I thought about them all day long and cried a little about every 30 minutes when I would think about their funny one liners or their sweet little smile or what are they doing, I hope they are okay!
Jake and I were excited when the timer went off. (Not that I needed it. I was looking at the clock about every 20-30 minutes.) We headed out to try and find my new route to the school. When we got to the head of the line they called out our car rider number and waited for someone to show. After about 2 or 3 minutes she asked if it was their first day and then asked for our last name. I saw the girls standing their looking so little in a crowd full of children! Kennedy’s teacher grabber her and Maddie and started to walk them to the car.
I heard nothing but how much fun they had for the rest of the day. Kennedy told me, “It was the best day of her whole life!” I was hoping such a memory might include me in it but was happy she was so excited about her day. I kept hugging them and telling them how much I loved them and missed them. I loved hearing about their day, except for Maddie telling me that at lunch she took her Capri Sun out of her lunch box and put the straw in all by herself (she was very proud of herself) and when she went to get a drink it had “disappeared!” Yes, GONE!! I couldn’t believe my ears. I was so upset. Was this a start of some punk kid starting to pick on my baby! She evidently went and told “one of the bakers” and they gave her a chocolate milk, which by the way was much better then the kind that I make. I asked her if any other kids had Capri Sun’s in her class (they stagger in 4 to 5 kids at a time) and she said yes two kids did. One had a Kool Aid Man one and one had roller skates on it just like hers. She was “guessing that someone might had took it.” I told Matthew I was going to put her name on her drink on Monday and if it happens again
I am going to have to talk to the teacher. I am I crazy mom?
Well, we all survived the day and the girls are anxiously awaiting Monday…I am dreading it. I am sure that in a few weeks when the newness wares off I will enjoy the quiet time.

Oh my heck, they are so cute I can hardly stand it. Yay you survived! I would totally hunt down that dirty low down drink stealer though. Stealing your baby girl's "Pretty Sun"?! (That's what my boys call them by the way...lol) Oh HECK no! haha...

LOL! Ok, maybe I shouldn't laugh- I may worse when my time comes. I worry most about mean kids and rude kids. I hope these tyrants won't influence my boys too much. Stealing on the first day? C'mon now. It was probably some "Limpnicky!" :)

No touching the walls, ay? Sounds like my kind of school...clean!
Madison and Kennedy looked completely adorable & excited for their first day.
